The Organ in Carlisle Cathedral is little heard but is a fine Willis. Edward Taylor, the assistant organist centres his British recital around Adrian Self's clever "Fantasy on Carlisle. Also rarely heard are the three pieces of 1939 by Frank Bridge as well as music by Arthur Wills and David Briggs.

"I learnt the craft on this organ in the1960s. In Mr Taylor's hands it sounds wonderful. His playing is thoroughly musical and assured. and  he allows the music to breathe. He communicates. The Carlisle instrument is stuffed with beautiful quiet ranks that feature on the CD, the Great Gemshorn in particular, and the choruses sound well, the Swell coming across much better in the building, and on the CD, than at the console. Is it my faulty ears, or is the Tuba louder than it used to be? A very fine CD.

This is playing of the highest quality by a performer who knows his instrument intimately. The programme is ideally suited to display the wonderful colours and registrations of this organ. Thoroughly recommended."   Stanley Monkhouse
