The Fourteenth release in this groundbreaking series is from Gloucester Cathedral played by the Assistant Organist, Jonathan Hope. As with all the other releases the music is based on the history of the cathedral and the city as well as the surrounding area. The programme is a popular one and includes several transcriptions which show of the organ in its best and most impressive light. The Bonus features contain a lengthy demonstration of the organ and its features as well as introductions to the programme and the split screen feature as the organist talks through his registrations to the performed music. This product is available as a BluRay and DVD and also contains a CD of the recital.
Review from Music Web International:
"This package from Priory seems to me to be an ideal way to demonstrate a great organ – and the great church in which it is housed – both to organ buffs and to the general listener. Every aspect of the package is first-class. The camerawork is consistently apt and imaginative; the sound quality is superb; the documentation, which includes excellent notes on the music by Jonathan Hope as well as a full specification of the organ, is first rate. Add to all that a perceptive and wide-ranging choice of music and masterly performances by a very fine organist and I doubt that the Gloucester Cathedral organ has ever been shown off to such advantage."
"the organ sounds utterley glorious....I am speechless.....you must buy this and, having bathed in the glories of the programme, take the organ tour, watch the narrated Final of the Symphonie de Boston and finally, open mouthed, watch the Pedal Division! Many congratulations. (Andrew Fletcher - Organists Review)
