Thomas Tertius Noble was an English born composer and organist. After the Royal College, he served at Ely Cathedral in the 1890s and then at York Minster from  1898 until 1913 during which time he also conducted the York Symphony Orchestra. His last appointment was at St.Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue in New York where Dr.Noble founded the choir school.  He is chiefly known for a B minor Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis but his organ music is unknown and unrecorded. John Scott Whiteley, the former assistant organist of the Minster has extensively researched his output for organ and Priory will be releasing his entire works from York Minster on three CDs. This second volume is typical of his creative style -  the programme being   easy on the ear and draws out the fine sound of  this organ.

Reviewing PRCD 1116 – Noble Organ Works – Volume 1

"....what is crystal-clear is that Tertius Noble was a wholly exceptional musician: clearly a hugely talented organist and a composer of genuine gifts, whose organ music is quite brilliantly written and fits the organ in a way that so much recent organ music does not. I strongly recommend this disc and look forward to its successors. (Robert Matthew Walker - Cathedral Music)

"Throughout this quite enthalling CD, the performances and recording quality are first-class, and this therefore becomes yet another wholly admirable issue from the invaluable company." James Palmer - The Organ

"The combination of Whiteley's playing and his intimate knowledge of the Minster organ do much to enhance the whole programme....captured so effectively by Priory" (Nicholas Johnson - Organists Review)

"Scott Whiteley plays with conviction and is clearly very much as home in the repertoire." Chris Bragg - Choir and Organ

" This first volume makes for surprising and varied listening, musically rewarding throughout, played with passion and precision by Whiteley on the great instrument he knows so well." (Matthew Power - Choir and Organ *****)"Whiteley is a splendid persuasive guide through all the pieces. Of course no one knows the York Minster organ better thn he and his use of the myriad colours makes for most enjoyable listening. Neil Collier's recording allows all this to be heard perfectly. Warmest congratulations to John Scott Whiteley  for bringing this neglected composer to a wider audience."       Roger Judd - Cathedral Music
