'A well filled disc offering an interesting and coherent programme of music, well played on a very characterful instrument.' . Music Web International

This incomparable series of recordings, without doubt the greatest series of organ records ever made, approaches its centenary with this outstanding issue - outstanding in terms of musicality of interpretation, choice of repertoire and recorded sound. The very great attraction of this particular release is the nature of the music it contains - virtually every one of these items is a transcription, each done by a master of the organ, music of great interest and quality which is hardly ever heard these days - even in the most innovative recitals. Martyn Rawles (...who provides his own informative booklet notes) is to be highly commended for his selection - bringing this material to our attention in very finely played performances...this is a recording to treasure, and is therefore very strongly recommended.              The Organ

"The Stanford track is a perfect opener...much sweeter (and still crystal-clear) tones are heard later, for example in the Delius and Holst. Musically the surprise is the Parry English acquires a new spark on the organ and feels entirely idiomatic...Spicer's Land of Lost Content is an extended, atmospheric, Housman-inspired meditation, displaying a clear influence from the composer's teacher Herbert Howells...However, the big star here is, of course, the Lichfield organ...The specification is IV/82, with an especially impressive array of diapason sound on the Great. It's a welcome addition to Priory's long-running series, and even if not every item on the programme persuades musically, both organ and organist serve them all well. The programme notes are brief but excellent."       Organists Review
