There have been a number of highly distinguished cycles of the Complete Organ Works of Olivier Messiaen. Top of the pile is probably Dame Gillian Weir’s set on Priory (PRCD 921 -926).
This CD is perfect for the novice to or casual listener to delve into the world of this composer whose music is both technically demanding and challenging. Kevin Bowyer is an ideal champion and plays Les Corps Glorieux, the main work on this CD and other smaller scale works on the Willis III organ in Glasgow University Memorial Chapel.
"For a way to focus on the excellent of the performance and the notes, themselves without a monolithic French instrument taking centre-stage, this is a disc worth hearing." Choir and Organ ****
