David Leigh makes his Priory debut in this penultimate issue in Priory’s Great European Organ Series. The Dublin Organ is a Father Willis and Leigh’s programme is formed around Edwin Lemare’s gigantic Organ Symphony No. 1. The other pieces by Harvey Grace, Sir Robert Stewart and Giroud are first recordings.
Reviewing this CD:
"One must begin with a host of compliments to David Leigh for tackling a programme which implies considerable interpretative and technical challenges and for bringing off a series of performances that had me gripped from first bar to last. In the Lemare Symphony, David Leigh's performance is completely convincing. All in all, a splendid and - in its way - quite important disc." Robert Matthew Walker- The Organ. 5 Stars
"All of this grand, delicious music is delivered with skill and panache: the organ sounds brilliant and revishing... Graeme Kay - Choir and Organ
" what becomes obvious from even a limited survey of their GEO series is how well Priory has combined inspired choices of instrument with equally inspired choices of repertoire. So again with the present well filled CD....the playing is splendid...the recorded sound captures the deepest bass notes with breathtaking vividness. This production will warrant an honoured place in many a critic's forthcoming "best releases of 2016 round-up. R.J.Stove - Organ Australia.
