The organ music of Stanford has never been recorded in its entirety and here Priory returns to Salisbury, where Volume 1 was recorded in this series (PRCD 1095) of his complete works. Daniel Cook’s survey encompasses his fourth Sonata which forms the centre point and the two sets of Preludes and Fugues completes this Volume. The booklet contains copious scholarly notes by the eminent Stanford author Dr Jeremy Dibble.
Reviewing Volume 2: (PRCD 1106)
"Daniel Cook has established himself as a most persuasive champion of organ music by composers from these islands......excellent booklet notes from Jeremy Dibble. His playing sounds like a labour of love and in partnership with the huge palette of sounds available to him at Durham, the music comes vividly alive. Neil Collier's recording captures the instrument and acoustic splendidly. Warmly recommended." Editor's Choice Organist's Review June 2015.
Reviewing this volume:
"I have no doubt that Priory's current issues, of which this is the latest, encompassing the complete organ works of Sir Charles Stanford, constitute o0ne of the more important series of organ recordings to be released in recent years.....Priory are to be warmly congratulated on their enterprise and achievement. It is one thing to decide to record this music, but quite another to find an organist willing to learn and perform it - but once again this remarkable company places us in debt by inviting Daniel Cook to be the interpreter. I have been very impressed by Daniel Cook's interpretation and grasp of a masterly work....throughout the series Daniel Cook proves himself the ideal interpreter. He delivers performances that do everything to reveal the richness and depth of this music. The recording quality is of the very best we have long come to expect as a norm from Neil Collier and his Priory team. Strongly recommended." Robert Matthew Walker - The Organ - 5 Stars
"The Salisbury instrument and acoustic provide the most ideal voice for Stanford's combination of classical romanticism. My greatest hope is that these volumes are sought out and bought as a valuable reference collection." Joe Riley - Organists Review.
